O ensaio almeja discutir a problemática da violência contemporânea a partir de duas referências básicas:por um lado, pretendo refletir sobre a violência em função de sua maior ou menor proximidade com a categoria de pulsão, em psicanálise, articulando-a, enfim, à questão da crueldade; por outro, retomo dois trabalhos de Carmela Gross e Artur Barrio, artistas contemporâneos que “figurabilizaram” dois momentos, jamais cabalmente elaborados, de extrema violência vivida em nosso país: a ditadura militar dos anos 1960 e 70 e o regime escravocrata do Brasil Colônia. Desse modo, a análise destaca a fina ironia que tais imagens dão a ver, configurando uma dimensão crítica que muito interessa à história da arte, mas, também, à reflexão psicanalítica mais atual que se debruça sobre o assunto.(AU)

This paper intends to discuss some problematic issues towards the contemporary violence, but in this case, linking my analysis to two basic references: in one hand, the text will based on the psychoanalytical category of drive and its articulations with violence and cruelty; in the other hand, I’ll bring the work of two contemporary artists, Carmela Gross and Arthur Barrio, that “figurabilicizes” two of the most violent episodes of our Brazilian history: the military dictatorship of 1960’s and 1970’s and the slavery regime of our Colonial Period. In this way, the analysis highlights the fine irony of these images, setting us a dimension of one critical paradigm which interests art history, but also the contemporary psychological thinking which focuses on this subject.(AU)
